UK art-rockers Dry Cleaning today announce their long-awaited return to Australia this May and June, bringing their acclaimed live show back for a run of major festival appearances and special headline shows, and Ballarat is the only regional city on their tour.

Presented by I OH YOU and MG Live, this tour will celebrate the release of Dry Cleaning’s critically acclaimed new album Secret Love (out now, available here) and marks their first Australian visit since their sold-out debut tour in 2022, with critics hailing them as 'like no other band you’ve seen'.

Praised as one of the most intelligent and exciting live acts to come out of the UK, the South London, Grammy Award-winning quartet shot to international prominence in 2019 with their poetic yet unconventional lyrics and alt-rock riffs, rapidly becoming one of the most thrilling new forces in rock.

Secret Love shows Dry Cleaning at their strongest, highlighting the close friendships between frontperson Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, drummer Nick Buxton and bassist Lewis Maynard. On this album, theY blend influences from early ’80s punk, stoner rock, no wave and even gentle, acoustic guitar work. Florence’s spoken‑word style fits tightly with the band’s shifting sound, placing her in a line of distinctive vocalists like Laurie Anderson and Sue Tompkins, while the group continues to push their music in new and inventive directions.

'Recently I feel very pessimistic about the world... I wanted to stoke my drive to stay positive and promote softness, joy and compassion.' – Florence Shaw

Secret Love evolved through affirming sessions at Jeff Tweedy’s Chicago studio the Loft and explosive ones with Gilla Band’s Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios in Dublin, taking advantage of the sensory particulars of each space, and finally with Cate Le Bon at Black Box in the Loire Valley. After interviewing various potential producers, they picked Cate – an esteemed solo artist who has also made albums for Deerhunter, Devendra Banhart, Wilco and Horsegirl – for her unabashed positivity and openness. 'Being in a room with them and hearing that vitality and life force that exists between them all, it’s such a unique expression,' says Cate Le Bon.

'Dry Cleaning provide a voice for people who are at their wits’ end but not yet beyond a wry smile at the absurdity of modern life.'
