“I bloody love the Rat”

See why the 2024 Be Hear Now music conference will go off!

The Be Hear Now festival is fast approaching, and we are pleased to announce that Augie March will be performing, alongside supporting acts Coda Chroma and Dayfever. This exclusive one-night event promises to deliver a captivating experience as these talented artists take the stage at the esteemed Civic Hall in Ballarat.

But what is Be Hear Now?

The primary objective of Creative Ballarat’s Be Hear Now program is to identify, nurture, and develop artists within the Ballarat region. The program emphasizes talent recognition and provides essential support through mentoring, training, and resources such as video production among other offerings. Be Hear Now are dedicated to selecting artists who show significant promise and determining the specific support they require to succeed.

Be Hear Now is designed for everyone who appreciates live and original music. The festival welcomes a diverse array of genres, ages, talents, and styles. We encourage you to explore the full program of events and activities, many of which are offered at no charge.

AUGIE MARCH

“We’ve been going out to the Rat since the turn of this century,” drummer Dave Williams says, laughing in memory. “We’ve had some infamous gigs there.” Williams is referring to none other than the burgeoning arts city of Ballarat, and so it’s only fitting that Augie March are set to headline the city’s music series Be Hear Now this August.

Augie March understands the importance of supporting creative communities in the regions they come from. “I think about playing music as a part of my community and my culture,” Dave Williams says. “I always see it as just another facet of life.”

CODA CHROMA

Since starting her genre-defying music project Coda Chroma in 2016, this award-winning musician has shown no signs of slowing down. “I just started writing some songs and working with my partner [Damien Charles], who’s a producer, and because we live together, we work on recordings at home,” she says from her home in Ballarat. “It’s just a constant now.”

DAYFEVER

“I remember being totally mesmerised by this mysterious instrument. Elegantly standing atop its throne, the chrome pickups glistening and gleaming, an all-encompassing beast of mystery calling out to be plucked and played.”

For the music-loving community of Ballarat, Connor Toomey of Dayfever needs no introduction. After stumbling across a guitar at six years old at his older sister’s friend’s house, Connor says that that was it. “I was hooked.”
